Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, criticizes the Idea of Federalization of Ukraine
" ‘Efferent processes´ are always palpable in the periods of peak political loads, V.Lytvyn stated in the Friday´s interview to Rada television channel. We already face ‘the regional selfishness´, the first small steps towards separation."
He supposes that the suggestions of ‘dividing and separating´ can be beneficial for "those who consider themselves the local financial elite to dominate in a certain territory." "But what about Ukraine? The nation? The people? The State?", V.Lytvyn stressed.
"One does not need much wit to separate, while consolidation of the country, establishment of cooperation and achievement of tangible results require enormous efforts", he stated. He believes that this topic shall be treated with "great responsibility."
Before raising the matter of federalism, V.Lytvyn deems necessary to analyze the experience of other countries, as well as economic prerequisites. "This idea has been mentioned in Ukraine many times in different historical periods, however, the conditions of those times and the stage of development of Ukraine shall be studied at first, the Head of the Parliament stated. The fundamentals of public life and foreign policy shall also be considered."
The Head of the Parliament deems necessary to pursuit the policy of integration. It is this policy that can ensure "tremendous positive results, providing for the breakthrough of Ukraine."
