Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, believes that Signing of the Agreement on Demarcation of the Ukrainian-Russian State Border is a Crucial Point of the Visit of Dmitry Medvedev, President of the Russian Federation, to Ukraine
Asked by the Rada television channel on Friday, V. Lytvyn stated that the scheduled visit of Dmitry Medvedev, President of the Russian Federation, to Ukraine was very important. He also stated that the previous period of ‘cold, formal relations´ between Ukraine and Russian Federation used to have a negative impact on the economic development of both countries and the international image of Ukraine. "The whole Europe repeatedly made a point that the relations with Russia shall be normalized", he stated.
The Head of the Parliament believes that signing of the agreement on demarcation of the Ukrainian-Russian state border is a crucial point. "An ultimate resolution shall be made as to the territories that belong to Ukraine and the Russian Federation. The role of ‘a fence´ between neighboring countries should be given to the strict line of the state border."
"We have settled the issue of the borders with Belarus, if it is done with Russia, we will only have certain problems with Moldova only", V. Lytvyn declared. "It is impossible for Ukraine as an independent state to leave these problems unsettled", the Head of the Parliament concluded.
