The meeting was held at the request of the Slovak Party.
In the meeting took part: T. Chornovil, First Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs and V. Marushchenko, Leader of the Deputy Group of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on Interparliamentary Connections with Slovak Republic.
Oleh Bilorus greeted the Slovak Party and highly evaluated the relations between two countries, emphasising that ""relations between our states are in the process of the dynamic development during last years." He expressed hope that such meetings would facilitate the formation of stable long-termed bilateral relations between the Parliaments of Ukraine and Slovak Republic.
The chairman of the Committee is convinced that interparliamentary relations at the level of the committees on foreign affairs have great potential and perspectives regarding the further development of bilateral interparliamentary cooperation.
Ukrainian parliamentarians suggested intensification of the cooperation level between the parliaments of two countries before the formation of interparliamentary Assembly of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and National Council of Slovak Republic. It was also emphasised that in the process of its further development it is supposed to join Interparliamentary Assembly of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Seimas of the Lithuanian Republic and Sejm of the Republic of Poland.
In the course of the meeting the Parties discussed the issues on conduction of the common sitting of the Committees on Foreign Affairs of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and national Council of Slovak Republic with the involvement of the governmental structures.
T. Chornovil, First Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs pointed out the attention "to the great steps of Slovak Republic on the way of stabilization and development of the political and social spheres and consolidation round the main principles of the state functioning."
Juraj Horvath, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of National Council of the Slovak Republic expressed great interest of the Slovak Party in the development of interparliamentary cooperation between Ukrainian and Slovak parliamentarians on the constant basis. He emphasised that "it is interparliamentary relations that give impulse to the political and economic relations between to countries."
The Parties emphasised the necessity of the formation of long-termed development program of the bilateral relations and expressed hope regarding the future intensive cooperation in the interests of both nations.
