Volodymyr Lytvyn, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on Thursday took part in the celebration of the day of historic department of T. H. Shevchenko Kyiv National University, Greeting the education personnel, students and postgraduates of the department with the holiday, the Head of the Ukrainian Parliament declared that this event should be transformed into the national occupational holiday Historian Day. "Taking into the consideration the processes in our state, today, more than ever the role of historians is increasing. If the politicians and authorities doe not hear their thoughts instead fixing the history for their own purposes, the state will have no future."
According to V. Lytvyn, in the course of the conversations with the representatives of the political circuses of different states, he came to the conclusion that "history is once again on the front line of ideological confrontation." Taking into the consideration this fact, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine states "we need to write the history of Ukrainian nation." "If one agrees to the fact that reinterpretation of the history is a great harm, then there is a question why it is done by Poland, Germany or Russia for example?"
As it was declared in the course of the meeting, the Chairman of the supervisory board of Kyiv National University upholds the close connections with history department of KNU, from which he had graduated.
