"The majority of the People´s Deputies protested against the establishment of responsibility for abasement of dignity of Ukrainian nation", - Mykola Tomenko, Deputy Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, regretted. He commented upon the voting for the Bill "On Amendments to the Codes of Ukraine regarding Establishment of Responsibility for Abasement of Dignity of Ukrainian Nation".

M.Tomenko considers the concept of the Bill to be "absolutely right". He took efforts to convince the Parliament to adopt the Bill at the First Reading, adjusting it for the Second Reading. "We shall finish with this problem, adopting a corresponding Law, as there happened several infamous accidents, when the officials, i.a. the Secretary of Donetsk Municipal Council, abased their own country, its language and attributes of statehood in their speeches", - he stated.

M.Tomenko reminded that last year the Parliament had adopted the Law drafted by himself and People´s Deputy V.Moisyk. The Law enhanced criminal responsibility for violation of the State symbols of Ukraine. "Now, at least officials, especially mass media officials, shall assume responsibility for abasement of dignity of Ukraine and its people. There were numerous cases of inappropriate Ukraine-phobic actions and declarations on the part of the deputies of local councils, officials and mass media", - M.Tomenko stated. He cited the example of "Kyiv" municipal TRBC that "is actively used for abasement of Christian traditions, especially Orthodoxy, in various TV programs".  "Thus, this Bill is of utter importance for the country and Ukrainian people; however, only the Factions of the Yulia Tymoshenko Bloc, the Lytvyn Bloc and part of "Our Ukraine-People´s Self-Defence" supported it", - the Deputy Chairman stressed.
