Mykola Tomenko, Deputy Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, addressed the National Olympic Committee with a Request to prevent Raider Seizure of the Tennis Federation
The request is connected with the resolution of the Ministry for Family, Youth and Sport to curtail the period of granting the "National" status to the Tennis Federation of Ukraine. The period is curtailed from eight years to one year and four months. M.Tomenko stated that such actions of the officials "demonstrate a new type of sports raidership, when a group of officials are willing to seize a popular and successful federation". "The aim is evident: they are willing to register a new federation with a "national" status to nominate it for an international representation of Ukraine in tennis", - he stated.
M.Tomenko stated that the firm stand of the Federation concerning prevention of elimination of tennis courts in "Olimpiysky" National Sports Complex was another reason for these pursuits.
M.Tomenko is upset by the fact that such events develop on the eve of the "Ukraine-Italy" Federation Cup match scheduled for February and "Ukraine-Latvia" Davis Cup match planned for March.
M.Tomenko deems it inadmissible to repeat the incident when two basketball federations were created in the result of different conflicts.
The Deputy Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine believes that the National Olympic Committee shall immediately scrutinize this matter at its coming sitting to prevent raider seizure of the Tennis Federation.
