On Friday, Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, visited Khmelnytsky Social Technologies Institute, a structural unit of Open International Human Development University "Ukraine".
"There are almost 3 million persons with disabilities among 46 million of people in Ukraine, - V.Lytvyn stated, visiting the education establishment that pays great attention to the students with special needs. All legislative acts required for protection of people with disabilities and satisfaction of their demands have been adopted. However, they are poorly implemented".
However, the issue covers not only the material support of persons in need of special attention. This matter involves the moral aspect. "We shall exert every effort for these people to feel demanded and involved in community life. The experience of "Ukraine" university deserved deep respect and manifold assistance", - the Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine is convinced.
He stated that 90 persons with special needs were currently enrolled in Khmelnytsky Social Technologies Institute. "They are equal with other people, they have the same heart, mind, thoughts and wish to lead a happy life", - he stated. V.Lytvyn called for the development and implementation of projects for the people with special needs to have a possibility not only to obtain education, but also to realize themselves in the professional sphere and public life.

"Ukraine" University is the only higher education establishment of the integrated type, open for the youth of unequal educational base, different social possibilities and health condition. At present, 16 thousand students are studying at "Ukraine" University (including 23 regional representations). Distance learning is being developed. It will render a possibility for the persons with disabilities and students from low-income families to obtain education.
