On 2 December, The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine rejected the Bill on Amendments to certain Legislative Acts of Ukraine regarding Elections of the President of Ukraine (Reg. No.5263-2), having scrutinized it at the Second Reading.
Unfortunately, certain mass media failed to cover the scrutiny of the Bill adequately, which resulted in the dissemination of incorrect information concerning statements of Oleksandr Lavrynovych who presided over the plenary meeting. Hence, the Press Service of the First Vice-Chairman deems necessary to introduce clarity into certain statements.
The Bill was scrutinized in full compliance with the Ukrainian legislation. The People´s Deputies scrutinized every amendment to each Clause, passing resolutions concerning every single Clause. However, the Parliament members failed to support any amendment or any clause of the Law adopted at the First Reading.
"Dear colleagues, we have scrutinized all the amendments to all the clauses of the Law, passing resolutions concerning every amendment and clause. The People´s Deputies failed to support any amendment. Moreover, all the clauses of the Law on Amendments to certain Legislative Acts of Ukraine regarding Elections of the President of Ukraine adopted at the First Reading were dismissed. Thus, the Bill on Amendments to certain Legislative Acts of Ukraine regarding Elections of the President of Ukraine (Reg. No. 5263-2) is rejected", - Oleksandr Lavrynovych, First Vice-Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, stated, as fixed by the verbatim record of the morning Parliament´s meeting of 2 December.
According to the verbatim record, O.Lavrynovych addressed the People´s Deputies with a request not to distort the facts concerning initiators of the scrutiny. "Dear colleagues, we have concluded the scrutiny of the issue. At first, I would like to introduce some clarity. Dear Oleh Valeriyovych Liashko, do not distort the facts please, as the Law under scrutiny was submitted on the explicit request of your Faction (BYuT), other Factions did not insist on the scrutiny", - the verbatim record of the morning meeting of 2 December reads.
