Mykola Tomenko: The Acting Parliament has only one Session Week before the Official Election Campaign is launched

Mykola Tomenko, Vice-Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, believes that blocking has absolutely discredited itself as a tool of activity of the parliamentary opposition.

M.Tomenko analyzed the prospects of Parliament´s activity on the eve of the plenary week that wil launch with the sitting of the Conciliative Council on Monday (5 October) and continue with the session work on 6-9 October.  M.Tomenko stressed that "it will be the last four session days that will either resume the activity of the parliament of the sixth convocation, or finish its activity till the end of the presidential election campaign".

According to the schedule, the next plenary meeting will be held on 20 October, unless the activity of The Verkhovna Rada is unblocked within the week of 6-9 October and it works efficiently. It concurs with the launch of the election campaign and the meetings of the main political forces will apparently be held on 20-23 October. Thus, M.Tomenko believes that actual election campaign and the nomination procedure will further postpone the problem of Parliament´s activity.

M. Tomenko, Vice-Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, commented upon the very fact of blocking Parliament´s work. He stated: "Blocking has actually become a tool of discrediting of the Party of Regions itself, as the sociological studies testify of the fact that almost 80% of people do not support blocking as a tool of adopting resolutions. The majority of supporters of the Party of Regions do not support such actions as well", - stated M.Tomenko.

The Vice-Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine also stressed that the incessant blocking rendered no possibility to settle a number of urgent matters. "Hence, the next plenary week is the last attempt to resume the Parliament´s activity before the election campaign", - M.Tomenko stressed.
