Peter Balas, Deputy-Director General for External Trade of the European Commission, José Manuel Pinto Teixeira, Head of the Delegation of the European Commission to Ukraine and Ulrike Hauer, Head of Trade and Economic Section of the Delegation of the European Commission to Ukraine, attended the meeting.
Serhiy Teriokhin highly appreciated the attempts of the European Union to support Ukraine, and informed the representatives of the European Commission about the bills drafted in the field of tax legislation.
Peter Balas stressed the importance of enhancing cooperation with Ukraine, and stated that the European Commission would promote due representation of Ukraine in the world.
The interlocutors discussed the matter concerning a 13-per-cent provisional surcharge to the effective import duty rate. The Parties agreed that it was a provisional measure connected with the rapid increase of negative balance of Ukrainian trade.
The Deputy-Director General for External Trade of the European Commission expressed his contentment with the fact that the Committee was willing to coordinate the national legislation with the European standards, EU directives, Kyoto protocol and other documents.
The Parties agreed upon further cooperation during the period of drafting a new version of the Customs Code and other Bills appertaining to the simplification of customs control and use of electronic documents.
