Mykola Tomenko: The Party of Regions protected the Interests of Elite Pensioners
"The Party of Regions protected the interests of elite pensioners", - this is the interpretation of the Resolution of the Constitutional Court concerning the restriction of rate of the so-called elite pensions, believes Mykola Tomenko, Vice-Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
Thus, on 8 September, the Constitutional Court adopted a resolution regarding the case filed in by 59 People´s Deputies of Ukraine. The case concerned compliance of Paragraph 10 of the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine "On certain Issues concerning Social Security of certain Categories of the Citizens" with the Constitution of Ukraine. The Court recognized the Resolution as such that fails to comply with the Constitution of Ukraine. The said Paragraph of the Resolution of 28.05.2008 stated that the maximum rate of pensions shall not exceed UAH 10 thousand per month.
Mykola Tomenko believes that the rate of the maximum pension established at the level of UAH 10 thousand is a fair approach, as an absurd correlation of pensions can be observed in Ukraine.
"The support of the Deputies from the Party of Regions by the Constitutional Court testifies of the pre-election nature of fighting for the enhancement of life of ordinary people. The Party of Regions succeeds in protecting the interests of elite pensioners. If the representatives of the political force were willing to support ordinary pensioners, they would look for the extra funds and amend the legislation on provision of pensions", - stated the Vice-Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
