Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, stresses that a New Law on Education must be recognized among the Higher Education Establishments

 

Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, deems necessary to adopt a new law on education that is being scrutinized at the profile committees of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. The Head of the Parliament made the above-mentioned statement meeting the students and the faculty of Volyn Lesia Ukrainka National University on Thursday. "This Law must be recognized among the higher education establishments, as well as the law on students´ self-government", - he stated.  

 

Dwelling upon the quality of modern education and the level of education establishments, V.Lytvyn stated that he "observed the situation in the field of education with worry". He believes that the competence level of education establishments has decreased, and "their activity lacks depth".  

 

Answering the questions of the audience, the Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine stated that he did not fully support the external independent testing and added that he was concerned with the thinking of the university entrants, their understanding of historic facts, not just the knowledge of historic dates.

 

V.Lytvyn deems important to access the Bologna system, observing the European standards of education. "However, introducing Bologna system, it is still necessary to develop relevant material base, as the upcoming experts must gain familiarity with the scientific and technical samples used in the modern world", - stressed V.Lytvyn.
