"Today, it is harder and harder for the parliamentary factions to reach an agreement, as everyone understands the existence of the cold war. It will reach its peak with the beginning of the presidential election campaign", - stated Mykola Tomenko, Vice-Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, in the program at Channel 5.

"Judging from the behavior of the team of Viktor Yanukovych, one may infer that they count days till his victory in the elections, and the team of Viktor Yushchenko is hopelessly thinking that these days will soon end, and worries about the way to make him a Deputy", - he stated.

Dwelling upon the beginning of Parliament´s work after the summer holidays, the Vice-Chairman characterized the yesterday´s sitting of the Conciliative Council as "inefficient", having admitted that certain agreements had been reached. According to M.Tomenko, there are two versions of the development of events at the Parliament: optimistic and pessimistic. "The optimistic version presupposes that we work on Tuesday and adopt resolutions concerning work for the whole plenary week, dedicating the entire week to the adoption of laws on the socio-economic development of the country. Apart from the social Bills, we want to suspend the affected discussion of the Constitutional amendments and scrutinize a number of Bills on the support of territorial communities", - stated the Vice-Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.

He stressed that the territorial communities needed the legislative support, so the BYuT Faction would suggest that the whole day of parliament´s work be dedicated to the scrutiny of the Bills on the local self-government.

According to M.Tomenko, the pessimistic version envisages that the work of The Verkhovna Rada will be blocked.

The Vice-Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine stressed that the BYuT Faction did not preclude from the scrutiny of the Bill on Amendments to the Law of Ukraine "On the State Budget of Ukraine for 2009" (re Rate of Minimum Wage and Minimum Living Wage). "We do not object to the scrutiny of the law on social standards. However, we will not endorse it, unless clear-cut, reasonable and responsible economic arguments are presented", - stated M.Tomenko.
