On Sunday, before the official celebration of the National Flag Day and the Independence Day of Ukraine, Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine visited the capital Park of Glory to lay the flowers to the monument to Unknown Soldier. Despite the fact that the official schedule did not include such an event, the Head of the Ukrainian Parliament visited the Park of Glory "at the call of the heart and soul".
"I am convinced that celebrating the Independence Day, our national holiday, we all should visit this place, as the monument to Unknown Soldier is one of the most sacred memorial places in every country", - stated Volodymyr Lytvyn in the interview to the journalists.
The Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine considers it not as a simple tribute to all the victims of the Second Patriotic and the Second World Wars, but as an honour to all the soldiers and officers, all defenders of the Motherland.
"It is necessary and right to lay flowers to the monuments of prince Volodymyr, Bohdan Khmelnytsky, Mykhailo Hrushevsky, Taras Shevchenko. However, one should not neglect the millions of people who defended Ukraine, protected it from the invaders, sacrificed their lives for its independence", - stressed Volodymyr Lytvyn.
