Mykola Tomenko: It is necessary to preserve Ukrainian News at the Polish Public Television TVP, as it complies with the Nature of Good Neighbourly Attitude to the Rights of Ukrainian Diaspora at the Territory of Poland
Mykola Tomenko, Vice-Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, forwarded the letter to Jerzy Szmajdziński, Vice-Marshal of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland, concerning the resolution of the Polish Public Television TVP to close down the news program in Ukrainian language in August.
Dear colleague!
This week I was informed about the resolution of the Polish Public Television TVP to close down the news program in Ukrainian language in August.
At present day, it is the only program in Ukrainian language broadcast in the whole Poland. Moreover, it is of considerable importance in the process of integration of Ukrainian national minority in the Polish society; it preserves national language and development of the inter-cultural dialogue between the Polish and the Ukrainians.
The development of inter-parliamentary cooperation testified of the possibility of reaching a compromise concerning any matters, provided it facilitates formation and development of contacts between our independent states and sovereign nations.
Taking into account the above-mentioned statements, I appeal for your concern with the preservation of Ukrainian news at the Polish Public Television TVP, as it complies with the nature of good neighbourly attitude to the rights of Ukrainian diaspora at the territory of Poland.
Respectfully yours,
Mykola Tomenko, Vice-Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine
For reference, the Association of Ukrainians in Poland also appealed to the leaders of the Polish Public Television TVP with a request to cancel the resolution to close down the news program in Ukrainian language in August. The Association of Ukrainians in Poland stated that the Polish Public Television TVP resolved to close down the TV news without prior agreement with Ukrainian diaspora, which violates Polish legislation.
Ukrainians in Poland will collect signatures under the request not to close down the TV news, which will be forwarded to the Deputies of the Sejm and mass media.
