Mykola Tomenko: By Joint Efforts, "Zaporizhska Sich" will be opened on the Feast of Protecting Veil of the Mother of God
On Monday, Mykola Tomenko, Vice-Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, presented the project "Let us restore Zaporizhska Sich". According to M.Tomenko, the project aims at completion of the construction of "Zaporizhska Sich" historico-cultural complex at the territory of "Khortytsia" national island-reserve, the grand opening of which is scheduled for 14 October 2009, on the Feast of Protecting Veil of the Mother of God (the Day of Ukrainian Cossacks).
M.Tomenko stated that ICTV channel and the National Radio Broadcasting Company of Ukraine currently provided information support of the project, and called on the mass media with a request to contribute to the advertising campaign to be launched on 19 June.
M.Tomenko related the history of creation of "Zaporizhska Sich" historico-cultural complex. He also had the honour to support the start of the construction, as the government of Yu.Tymoshenko, where he worked as the Vice-Prime-Minister of the Humanitarian and Social Matters, allocated 5 million UAH for the construction in 2005.
"Today we have a completed architectural project owing to the governmental support and sponsorship of Zaporizhzhia metallurgical works "Zaporizhstal", - stated M.Tomenko.
Summing up, M.Tomenko expressed his belief that "by joint efforts of public figures and businessmen, "Zaporizhska Sich" historico-cultural complex will be opened on the great Christian holiday - the Feast of Protecting Veil of the Mother of God, who is known to be the protector of Cossacks".
