Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, deems reasonable to hold simultaneous presidential, parliamentary and local elections provided the current electoral system in Ukraine is altered.
On Thursday V.Lytvyn appeared live at the television and radio broadcasting company "Krym". Answering the questions concerning the possibility to settle all present-day political issues by means of holding simultaneous elections at all the levels, V.Lytvyn stated: "Such an approach will be sensible and logical, provided a new electoral system is introduced". In the time of elections, he deems necessary to resign closed electoral lists, introduce the mechanism of deputies´ responsibility before the electors and envisage the possibility of their recall.
However, according to V.Lytvyn, in case the electoral system is altered and the political resolution concerning simultaneous holding of elections at all the levels is adopted, it will be necessary to hold the elections in concise terms, allotting two weeks for the entire electoral campaign.
The Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine explained that long electoral campaigns and trials destabilized socio-political and economic situation in the country, and made the authorities stagnant, which was inadmissible in the present-day situation.
