The Committee on Public Health scrutinized the Bill on Amendments and Supplements to the Law "On the State System of Biological Safety by Creation, Probation, Transportation and Use of Genetically Modified Organisms" (re Enhancement of Certain Regulations)

The Committee members stated that the Bill (Reg. No.3037) envisaged establishment of the National Commission for Biological Safety (a specially authorized body in charge of genetic-engineering activity) under the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.

However, the Bill fails to comply with regulations of the effective legislation, especially, the Law "On Licensing of Certain Types of Economic Activity".

The Committee recommends that the Bill be sent for further elaboration.
