NEW YEAR ADDRESS
of the Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine
to the Ukrainian Nation
Dear Compatriots!
Primordial winter holidays bestow the things we most lack in the everyday life upon us. First of all, it is a joy of sincere communication, benevolent feelings and hopes for the better, wealthier and more joyful tomorrow.
I send my greeting to every person and family on the occasion of the New Year and Christmas.
I am convinced that such expectations are well-grounded in spite of the challenges and worries that have already knocked at our doors or are still waiting behind the threshold of a contradictory and dramatic 2008. These expectations will come true, provided we unite by a common will, a single goal and belief in the building capacity of our nation. It happens not for the first time, and Ukraine has always overcome critical situations.
This is the most significant lesson dictated by the bygone and recent past and constantly reminded by the present. We should learn it fully and for ever, following inspiring and decent examples from the history.
Pressure of the recession is not a reason for disappointment and despair; it´s the call for persistent, considerate and responsible actions. That is the way the civic and human duty is understood by all the People´s Deputies who restored activity of The Verkhovna Rada despite the ardent resistance, initiated restoration of virtually destroyed system of public authority and took urgent measures to rescue economy and preserve vital activity of the country.
Dear compatriots, your understanding and support is a moral and political basis and the main motive force of realization of a project of a new Ukraine based on a decent life of a great nation.
I wish you energy, inspiration and confident advance on this way. Let broad daylight fill you life horizons.
Respectfully,
Volodymyr Lytvyn
