Oleksandr Lavrynovych, First Vice-Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, met William Taylor, U.S. Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Ukraine.

In the course of the meeting, the Parties discussed political and economic situation in Ukraine and the USA, exchanged their opinions concerning minimization of influence of the world financial crisis on the economy of both countries.

At the beginning of the meeting, William Taylor expressed his assurance that on election of Barack Obama as U.S. President, relations between Ukraine and the USA would actively develop, since, according to the Ambassador, "both republicans, and democrats support good relations between Ukraine and the USA". However, he stated that economic situation in both countries was rather serious, and governments of both States faced great difficulties. Therefore, W.Taylor stressed that "the States are in need of powerful authorities".

The First Vice-Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine stated that Ukrainian politicians would find adequate resolutions in order to reduce current negative economic processes. "It is necessary to have a strong government that enlists parliament´s support in order to overcome the crisis", - stated O. Lavrynovych.

O. Lavrynovych believes that the current week will be crucial for the search of common decisions between Ukrainian political forces. Thus, in his opinion, a temporary majority without a coalition can be created at The Verkhovna Rada.

In the course of the meeting, W.Taylor remarked that international support of Ukraine is based on respect for the law and justice. He stressed the necessity for Ukraine to respect its Constitution and laws.

In his turn, O. Lavrynovych stated that Ukraine would not overcome the influence of the global crisis by itself, and was relying on international assistance.

The First Vice-Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine stressed that Ukraine would build its international relations on the grounds of mutual benefit and openness both with neighbouring countries, and with the EU and the USA.
