The stand of Arseniy Yatseniuk, Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, declared at the briefing dedicated to the situation in the Parliament on 2 September 2008.

Arseniy Yatseniuk, Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, stated: "Today we scrutinized an economic legislation set of utmost importance concerning the prestigiousness of miner´s work. This united all the attendants, and I applied all efforts, so that these Bills be discussed and adopted.
However, I would like to dwell upon another set of legislation which is no more than a political blackmail failed to be coordinated within the scope of the coalition.
Every Bill that was introduced and is being scrutinized at the parliamentary hall contradicts the Ukrainian Constitution. Actually, we face an attempt to rewrite the Constitution by means of the so-called ordinary Laws.
The political forces formed a new configuration, in which I am not willing to participate, despite I am the Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada and the Head of the whole Parliament.
I am convinced that adoption of any legislation should clearly correspond to the Ukrainian Constitution.
Let the People´s Deputies vote, and we will see the results of the voting. If this voting provokes the collapse of coalition, this will become a disaster for the democratic idea of Ukraine.
Political forces joined in a classical conspiracy that occurred at the Parliament once again. Therefore, my decision to leave this Hall is a matter of principle. No legislative acts that are nothing more than a political blackmail of any political force or figure will be adopted."
