The hearings were attended by the People´s Deputies, representatives of the parliamentary committees on budget, economic policy, industrial and regulatory policy and entrepreneurship, science and education; ad hoc supervisory panel on privatization; Secretariat of the Cabinet of Ministers, the Council of National Security and Defence, the Ministries of Defence, Industrial Policy, Economy, the National Space Agency, a number of public associations.
The attendants of the hearings discussed the state of realization of the State Program of Reform and Development of Defence Industry until Year 2010, implementation of necessary actions by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, enhancement of normative and legal basis in the said field.
Anatoliy Hrytsenko, Committee Chairman, opened the hearings and stated that "the conditions of the defence industry are critical and endanger national security of the State".
Anatoliy Kinakh, Chairman of the Sub-Committee on Defence Industry, and Military and Technical Cooperation, also stated that "integral system of defensive planning failed to be established after a number of Laws and other relevant normative and legal acts had been adopted".
Re-equipment of the enterprises of the defence industry is a crucial issue, as depreciation of their basic assets exceeds 50%, and 70-75% of equipment is obsolete.
The attendants of the hearings also discussed the issues concerning development and integration of the defence industry, and analyzed negative processes in the said sector.
The participants also deem necessary to alter drastically budgetary and tax State policy in the field of the defence industry.
Due to the results of the hearings, the Committee on National Security and Defence, resolved to hold the meeting in order to summarize the introduced motions.
