The meeting was attended by the representatives of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, the Security Service, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Economy, the State Border Service, embassies of the EU member States, Association of International Motor Carriers, European Business Association.
Borys Tarasiuk, Committee Chairman, stated that The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine ratified both Agreements on 15 January 2008. On the same day, the Parliament adopted the Resolution "On Securing the Rights of Nationals of Ukraine to Freedom of Movement".
Participants of the meeting stated that regulations concerning introduction of visa-free regime will become a main component of a New Ukraine-EU Extended Treaty.
However, the Committee stated that implementation of the Agreement on Simplified Procedure of Visa Issue is attended with violations on the part of embassies and consular offices of certain EU member States.
The Committee members believe that the Cabinet of Ministers should duly respond to such violations. The People´s Deputies deem necessary to facilitate entry into force of the Agreement on Small Transborder Movement between Ukraine and the Republic of Poland in the version it was signed on 28 March 2008. They also call for ratification of the Agreement on Rules of Local Transborder Movement between Ukraine and Slovak Republic, and for launching negotiations with Romania regarding the Agreement on Rules of Local Transborder Movement.
Therefore, the Committee recommends that the Cabinet of Ministers takes necessary measures so that the Agreement on Readmission between the Governments of Ukraine and Russian Federation comes into force. The Committee recommends that the Agreements on Readmission with Belarus, India, Pakistan, China, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kirghizia, Tajikistan and Lebanon be signed.
The Committee members resolved to hold Committee hearings concerning implementation of Agreements between Ukraine and the European Union on Readmission of Persons and Simplified Procedure of Visa Issue in October 2008.
