The Bill (Reg. No. 0009) envisages Ukraine´s joining the Convention on Protection of Non-Material Cultural Heritage that consolidates at the international level the right and obligation of the member States to respect, preserve, research, protect and popularize non-material cultural heritage.
The Convention defines the term "non-material cultural heritage", goals and bodies of the Convention, functions and methods of work of the International Committee on Protection of Non-Material Cultural Heritage, terms and forms of rendering international assistance in the said field.
Pursuant to the Convention, nonmaterial cultural heritage includes "traditions, knowledge and skills as well as the associated instruments, items, artifacts and cultural space recognized by communities, groups and, in some cases, individuals as part of their cultural heritage".
The Committee members believe that Ukraine´s joining the Convention will promote preservation and development of non-material cultural heritage of all indigenous peoples and national minorities of Ukraine; create due conditions for preservation and support of traditional culture of Ukrainian nation; facilitate development of international cooperation in the said field.
