Committee members noted during the discussion, that the Agreement recommended for ratification by this Bill (Reg.No.0010) allows the resolution of citizenship matters in line with National Legislation provisions concerning the existence of single citizenship in Ukraine. The Agreement stipulates that each of the Parties thereto recognizes that a citizen is entitled to the citizenship of one country only. The implementation of this Agreement will exclude cases of absence of citizenship, or double citizenship, arising when citizenship will be changed by individuals according to this Agreement.
The concluding of this Agreement, emphasized by those present at the meeting, will also make the procedure of changing citizenship simple, and free of charge.
The document envisages that ‘Competent bodies of the party whose citizenship is acquired, shall issue the documents for acquisition of citizenship within three months of submission of the documents required´,
The Committee stressed that the ratification of this Agreement is in line with the National interests of Ukraine, and will strengthen the contractual and legal base for resolving citizenship issues in relations between Ukraine and members of the CIS countries, and provide the optimum procedure for changing of citizenship by those persons who have returned to Ukraine for permanent residence.
