In his appeal Andriy Matsiak states that "the theatres, as non-profit organizations, should be exempt from national and local taxes and dues, since they are subsidized for those budget funds". He also calls for giving tax incentives to charitable and sponsoring activity.
The Committee members upheld the motions introduced by the Director General of the National Dramatic Theater.
Volodymyr Yavorivsky, the Committee Chairman, stated that "the Committee already attempted to regulate the issues concerning tax benefits in the field of culture and art. However, the Committee was always seriously opposed on the part of economic bloc in the Government and The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine".
Nevertheless, at present it is possible to reach an agreement concerning the said issues. The Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Ukraine together with the Committee are elaborating two Bills: on amendments to the legislation regarding incentives to charity and sponsoring activity, and on national cultural product, which will be submitted for parliamentary consideration.
