The meeting was held at Odessa I.I.Mechnykov National University. The attendants of the meeting discussed legislative support of higher education, its scientific and research, innovation and creative capacity, regulation of optimal correlation between scientific and pedagogical activity of educational personnel at the higher educational establishments. The participants expressed their opinions concerning democratization of higher education, significance and functions of student self-government, legal regulation of financial and economic activity at the higher education establishments.
The meeting was attended by the People´s Deputies of Ukraine, representatives of Odessa regional State administration, rectors and scientific and pedagogical staff of higher educational establishments of Odessa, Mykolaiv and Kherson.
The attendants introduced their motions concerning enhancement of the effective Law "On Higher Education", especially its text and terminology. Thus, it is suggested to renounce the classification of higher educational establishments by the accreditation level, and discard the concept of "incomplete higher education".
The participants of the meeting deem reasonable to preserve the qualification of a specialist as a higher education degree that is legally recognized in the State, but is not used in the European dimension.
This "Round Table" was already the fifth one initiated by the Committee on Science and Education within the scope of preparations for the Committee hearings regarding a new version of the Law "On Higher Education". Similar meetings have already been held in Kyiv, Kharkiv, Simferopol, and Sumy. The next sitting will be held in Lviv.
