Adoption of the constitutional amendments touching the decentralization of power corresponds to the national interests of Ukraine thus, the authorities must do their best to ensure inevitability of such decentralization, Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada Volodymyr Groysman said opening the meeting entitled "Major trends of decentralization of power in Ukraine in 2016" on Thursday.
"The decentralization is efficiency, openness, transparency. Finally it is a chance to give money to those, who need it the most. We have to amend the Constitution to envision such decentralization," Groysman said.
He reminded that the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine had managed to protect financial decentralization in the the State Budget of Ukraine for 2016 despite the provisions that were present in the draft amendments and were able to ruin the decentralization endeavors. The adoption of respective amendments to the Constitution invalidate repeating of such a situation and curtailing of the decentralization in the future, the Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada said.
He also said that at present, the Parliament is still holding consultations on amendments to the Constitution of Ukraine. He expressed confidence that respective proper solution would be found. "I believe that the national interests will win," he said.
Groysman also assured he would continue fighting for the decentralization in the country despite all resistance. "I am absolutely committed to this idea," he assured.
