On December 8, 2015, Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada Volodymyr Groysman had a meeting with Vice President of the United States Joe Biden.
The Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada thanked Joe Biden for his speech at the session hall of the Ukrainian Parliament and noted that the speech once again confirmed the strategic nature of relations between Ukraine and the United States.
Groysman informed Joe Biden about the course of reforms in Ukraine and contribution made by the Verkhovna Rada to support of the dynamics and quality of internal changes. The Chairperson of the Ukrainian Parliament noted that over the first year of its work, the Parliament had many times proved to be able to unite around important decisions. Groysman said that the Ukrainian Parliament would remain the driver of reforms in Ukraine.
In turn the Vice President of the United States noted the necessity for systemic fight against corruption, the importance of constitutional reform touching the decentralization of power, and the reformation of the system of justice. Joe Biden noted that these reforms are required to build a successful state for the Ukrainians.
The Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada thanked the United States for comprehensive support in increase of the defense capacity of Ukraine in the context of the Russian aggression, for provision of the loan guarantees, expert and technical support aimed at re-launch of the Ukrainian economy. Groysman also welcomed principled position of the United States in holding policy of sanctions against the Russian Federation until comprehensive implementation of the Minsk agreements and return of the Russia-annexed Crimea under the control of Ukraine.
