The amendments to the Basic Law "will put a period to the centralized corrupted system of state governing," will "once and for many years de-usurp the power in the country and no one will ever be able to usurp it in the future." Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada Volodymyr Groysman said this taking questions of journalists on Thursday. He added he would do his best to improve the system.
The Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada also expressed an opinion that there was still an opportunity to consolidate the Parliament to amend the Constitution in a proper way. "This reform is a key to our comprehensive European integration, building of a real democratic society," Groysman said.
The Chairperson of the Ukrainian Parliament noted that today "the issue of these amendments depends on the political responsibility of each and every deputy and parliamentary faction, who would independently take the decision whether to support those amendments or not."
Groysman expressed hope saying "the time we have will be used for discussion, probably even for elaboration of additional draft laws to develop the constitutional amendments to finally ensure voting of at least 300 deputies [constitutional majority of votes]."
At that he noted that "today I did not hear any particular disagreements from the political forces." "I see no resistance to the decentralization constitutional amendments in the society. There were certain political games, certain attempts to misbalance the situation by political and not only political means. Thus, I’d like everyone to put their political colors aside and take a real state decision," he said.
"I believe we will manage to find all possible reserves inside the coalition to vote," Groysman said adding that "absolute majority" of parliamentarians was ready to support the constitutional amendments.
