The Parliament must provide the development of the national cinematograph at the level of legislation. Verkhovna Rada Chairperson Volodymyr Groysman gave the position on Wednesday while visiting the studio FILM.UA, which creates a Ukraine - France - Belgium movie entitled "Polina".
"I am impressed by what I saw on the shooting stage, where a collective of stars creates a very advanced movie," he said.
The Speaker of the Parliament said the development of cinema industry is "vitally important potential for Ukraine." He recalled that a lot of wonderful movies used to be created by Ukrainian studios. He said he had had a meeting with producers of Ukrainian television channels and representatives of production-studios who "are ready to create truly Ukrainian movies."
Volodymyr Groysman is confident that the development of the cinema industry in Ukraine must be supported at the level of legislation. A number of legislative acts have been registered in the Parliament that can give an impetus to the development of the Ukrainian cinematograph. "I will be doing my best to see the Ukrainian cinematograph consolidated and I am sure a lot of colleagues in the Parliament share this stance," said the Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada.
"Our task is doing our utmost to gain back the glory of the Ukrainian cinematograph. It is inadmissible that Ukraine does not have its own up-to-date cinema. This should be a very serious challenge for us because this means hundreds of millions in dollars invested in Ukraine," he said.
Volodymyr Groysman talked to film director Olias Barko (prize holder of the Cannes International Film Festival, the winner of the Grand Prix at the Rome Film Festival) and cinematographer Thierry Arbogast (winner of the Vulcain Prize at the Cannes Film Festival).
