Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada Volodymyr Groysman calls on the people's deputies to legislate the elimination of all forms of violence against women.

In his opening speech at the Wednesday plenary meeting of the Ukrainian Parliament, Groysman noted that this day, the whole world celebrates the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.

"It is a duty of every parliamentarian to create mechanisms that would eliminate any manifestations of violence against Ukrainian women. This task is one of the most important in our life. Respect to a woman, to a mother makes a person self-sufficient. Therefore, I call on everybody to be active in this struggle," the Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada said.

Against this background, Groysman said that as far as the Parliament could not afford remaining uninvolved in this process, its task was to ratify the Council of Europe Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence (Istanbul Convention) and expressed hope that soon, the Government would submit respective proposals for consideration of the Verkhovna Rada.

Speaking about the work of the Parliament, its Chairperson also noted that at the Tuesday plenary meeting the people's deputies adopted a number of important draft laws on legislative support of the development of economy. "The economy issue, the issue of its growth is number one for our country today. It should be of top-priority for the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. We have to create proper conditions for the development of the business," he said.

Groysman informed that on Wednesday, the heads of the parliamentary factions and groups, representatives of relevant Committees and members of the Government will hold a technical meeting to prepare the Tax Code and the state budget for further consideration.

According to Groysman, on Thursday, it is planned to eye a number of issues related to the deregulation of economy, decentralization in the field of support of unified territorial communities, as well as the law on state service.

The Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada called for constructive work and noted that its result should be "a clear and positive voting for the draft laws."
