Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman met with representatives of mining workers’ associations on Tuesday.

It went about the problems settlement of which require mine workers from different regions – Donbas, Lviv and Volyn. Inter alia, settlement of wage arrears, problems with restructuring of the branch and providing it with state support, as well as problems of cities for which coal mining industry is a budget-revenue.

The Parliament cannot substitute the executive power, however, we can and we should get involved in order to regulate the issue of coal industry operation,” said Volodymyr Groysman. In particular, he promised to inform Prime Minister about the results of the present-day meeting and address the Cabinet of Ministers with a request to hold a meeting on further work of the energy market, and, primarily, on urgent settlement of wage arrears.

He stressed that to resolve problems of mining cities it is necessary to attract European, particularly German, experience of reprofiling old industrial districts. He believes it is necessary to elaborate strategies for the development of such cities with attraction of financial resources of European partners.

Chairperson of the Parliament reassured that he is ready to uphold initiatives on resolving coal industry problems at the legislative level, as well as the initiatives that should be elaborated by the specializing committee jointly with representatives of mining workers’ associations. “We should speak openly what is possible and what is not under current circumstances. I will personally support the decisions that will contribute to settlement of the problems in this sphere,” said Volodymyr Groysman.
