Ukraine’s key task lies in persuading its US partners that lethal and non-lethal aid is extremely important to us, claimed Vice Speaker Andrii Parubii.
In the interview to BBC on Monday, he expressed a conviction that the entire world today is waiting for the decision of the United States to supply weapons, since this would be a signal to other countries who then will be able to actively get involved in this process (http://www.bbc.co.uk/ukrainian/news_in_brief/2015/02/150223_or_parubiy_arms).
“At present, when the whole world has seen how Putin ignores all the agreements, including “Minsk-2”, the international community has to realize that by not supporting the Ukrainian army we will face only escalation of the conflict. The only way to stop the conflict is to support the Ukrainian army,” claimed A.Parubii.
Commenting on the role of Canada and the Ukrainian community in this process, A.Parubii stressed that the Ukrainian community in Canada is an important factor in adopting governmental decisions. Thus, “Canada has to help us using its influence as the US close ally.”
According to Mr. Parubii, he has met several times with the Ukrainian community and activists of Ukrainian Canadian Congress in Toronto. He is scheduled to meet with the Speaker of the Lower House of the Canadian Parliament and several ministers on Monday.
The next day A.Parubii will meet with representatives of the Senate and Pentagon in the US.
