The round table discussion, held on January 21, involved representatives
of the International Federation for Human Rights, Human Rights Commissioner of
the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Foreign Affairs Ministry, Ministry of Justice,
Security Service of Ukraine, NDSC, Prosecutor’s General Office, Administration
of the President of Ukraine, as well as NGOs and scientists. Participants of the round table discussion discussed the issues of topicality of Ukraine’s accession to the International Criminal Court (ICC), cooperation with ICC, and possible ways of implementation of ICC Rome Statute, etc.
Participants of the round table discussion stressed the necessity of upholding the draft law on amendments to article 124 of the Constitution of Ukraine (re recognition of the provisions of the Rome Statue) (Reg. No. 1788), referred by 156 MPs of Ukraine. The document aims to establish constitutional preconditions for recognition on the part of Ukraine jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court on the conditions stipulated by Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court.
Participants of the round table discussion supported legislative
initiative of the people’s deputies V.Vovk, O.Liashko and others regarding
promptness and topicality of the draft resolution “On recognition on the part
of Ukraine jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court re the situation
that resulted from the ongoing military aggression of the Russian Federation
against Ukraine that began on February 27, 2014, and re commitment of
international crimes on the territory of Ukraine” (Reg. No. 1312). Apart from that, it was stressed that Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court needs to be ratified by Ukraine in view of the great number of casualties in the result of fulfillment of criminal orders, caused by activity and inactivity of high-ranking officials of the state.
