Opening the meeting, Chairperson of the Committee Artur Palatnyi said the decision to hold this round table was caused by a critical situation with funding of a considerable part of youth sports schools and canceling privileges of paying for land of sports objects.
The Chairperson of the Committee claimed the former management of the Ministry of Youth and Sports did not actively enough defend interests of the physical culture and sports sphere when elaborating a respective governmental package of laws.
Artur Palatnyi stressed that the new management of the Ministry "should postpone for the future new radical reforms and focus on saving youth sports".
Minister of Youth and Sports Ihor Zhdanov claimed that it is crucial for the Ministry to save the system of mass and youth sports. Ihor Zhdanov said that he "informed chairpersons in all regions that if the necessary funding of youth sports schools fails, I, as the Minister and a member of the Government, will find resources to strengthen respective oblasts".
People's deputy of Ukraine, Advisor to the President of Ukraine on humanitarian issues, Vice President of the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine Mykola Tomenko, First Deputy Chairperson of the Committee on Family Matters, Youth Policy and Sports Mykola Velychkovych, Chairperson of the National Sports Committee for People with Disabilities, Commissioner of the President of Ukraine for the Rights of People with Disabilities Valerii Sushkevych, and many others also participated in the discussion.
Participants of the discussion upheld proposal of Artur Palatnyi on unacceptability of destroying the youth sports. Issues on the need to urgently allocate funds from the State budget for financing youths sports schools, to exempt sports object from paying for land, and unacceptability of introducing a tuition fee for students of sports school were stressed.
The Committee members have been instructed to submit for consideration of the Verkhovna Rada the draft laws on amendments to the Law "On Physical Culture and Sports" and to the Tax Code for ensuring a stable development of the sphere of physical culture and sports.
Following the results of the discussion, participants of the meeting elaborated a series of recommendations.
