Presenting the bill (Reg. No. 1535), representative of the Defense Ministry noted that it aims to legislatively determine at the level of committees, as well as central and local bodies of self-government and law-enforcement bodies special appointees responsible for collecting, protecting and detaining prisoners of war and interned during the special period.

The bill, in particular, suggests supplementing article 9 of the Law “On the Defense of Ukraine”.

The Committee Chair Serhii Pashynskyi noted that adoption of this bill will allow implement legislation of Ukraine in line with the requirements of international legislation in the sphere of treatment of prisoners of war and interned, particularly, in line with the Geneva Convention of August 12, 1949 “Treatment of Prisoners of War”.

Following the results of consideration, Committee members unanimously took the decision to recommend the Verkhovna Rada adopt the bill as a basis and in entirety.
