Parliamentarians from over 30 democratic countries, including Ukraine, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Italy, Poland, as well as countries from Northern Europe, the Baltics, the Balkans, and members of the European Parliament, signed a Joint Statement congratulating the American people on Independence Day and reaffirming their commitment to shared democratic values and support for Ukraine’s struggle for freedom.

In total, more than 70 parliamentarians representing the foreign affairs, defense, and European integration committees of national parliaments and the European Parliament signed the document.

According to Oleksandr Merezhko, the statement is not only a symbol of solidarity with the American people but also a political signal of unity in defending the global rule of law.

«The United States has been and remains a key ally of Ukraine in our struggle for freedom and independence,” stated the Chairperson of the Committee. “This statement is not merely a symbolic gesture, but a powerful signal of unity among democratic nations and a clear message to those who challenge our shared values,» he added.

The statement highlights the ongoing aggression of russia against Ukraine and draws a historical parallel between America’s fight for independence in the 18th century and the current resistance of the Ukrainian people.

«Today, Ukraine, just as America did 249 years ago, defends its right to live in peace and to determine its own destiny,» emphasized Merezhko. «We are fighting for the same principles: freedom, democracy, and prosperity — in the face of brutal tyranny.»

The signatories of the statement call for:

Continued military and technological assistance to Ukraine, including the delivery of F-16 fighter jets, Patriot air defense systems, long-range weaponry, and drones;

Steady and timely provision of ammunition, as well as the deployment of joint weapons production within Ukraine;

Intensified sanctions against russia and sustained diplomatic pressure on the aggressor.

The document also underscores the importance of achieving a comprehensive, just, and lasting peace, highlighting the decisive role of American leadership and bipartisan support in this process.

«We stand at a critical juncture. Ukraine’s victory is a victory for the entire free world,» Merezhko concluded.
