Despite martial law, Ukraine continues to contribute to global food security, the Committee on Agrarian and Land Policy reports.

According to the State Customs Service and the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, as of now, since the beginning of the 2024/25 marketing year, Ukraine has exported 40.04 million tonnes of grain and leguminous crops, including 1.668 million tonnes shipped since the beginning of the current month.

In particular, since the start of the current season, Ukraine has exported:

Wheat – 15.566 million tonnes (compared to 18.123 million tonnes in the 2023/24 MY);

Barley – 2.314 million tonnes (2.461 million tonnes);

Rye – 10.8 thousand tonnes (1.6 thousand tonnes);

Corn – 21.565 million tonnes (28.416 million tonnes).

As of now, total exports of Ukrainian flour since the beginning of the current season are estimated at 68.7 thousand tonnes, compared to 96.7 thousand tonnes in the 2023/24 marketing year. This includes 61.2 thousand tonnes of wheat flour (compared to 91.3 thousand tonnes).

At the same time, under its updated export strategy, Ukraine is planning to enter new markets following the loss of trade visa-free access with the EU.

According to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, the largest importers of Ukrainian agricultural products are: Spain – $2.7 billion, The Netherlands – $1.6 billion, Italy – $1.3 billion, Germany – $1.2 billion.

Efforts are currently underway to explore opportunities for entering new markets. In the plans for 2025, Ukraine aims to access 31 new markets, particularly in Africa, the Middle East, and China. At the same time, the main strategic goal is to transition from a raw material–based economic model to one focused on value-added production.

It is noted that today, Ukraine's agricultural exports amount to $24.5 billion per year, while Poland’s agri-exports total $56 billion.

The key difference lies in export structure: the average export price per tonne from Ukraine is $309, while in Poland it is $1,560.

This is because EU countries, including Poland, process agricultural products and export them with added value, whereas Ukraine mostly exports unprocessed grain.
