Today in Brussels, members of the Committee on Economic Development met with the EU Special Representative for the Gulf States, Mr Luigi Di Maio.
During the discussion parties focused on the perspectives of the cooperation development between Ukraine and countries of the Persian Gulf region, in particular in such areas as energy, agriculture, high technology, trade and investment. Particular attention was paid to finding new formats of economic cooperation that would expand access for Ukrainian products and businesses to the markets of the region.
Mr Di Maio reaffirmed the EU's continued support for Ukraine in its struggle for independence and highlighted the importance of continuing political and economic dialogue. He stressed that the European Union's strategy for developing relations with the Gulf countries should take into account the interests and capabilities of the EU candidate countries, including Ukraine, which is already an important economic and political partner for the region.
According to Dmytro Natalukha, Chairman of the Committee: «We also received an update on the current economic and political situation in the Gulf region, which is important for shaping Ukraine's strategy for cooperation with the region. It was noted that Ukraine can play an important role in strengthening ties between the EU and the Gulf countries, offering unique opportunities for the development of a mutually beneficial economic partnership.»
On behalf of the Committee on Economic Development, we would like to express our sincere gratitude to Mr Luigi Di Maio and his team for the constructive dialogue and willingness to cooperate.
The Committee is convinced that the expansion of economic ties between Ukraine, the EU and the Gulf countries will open up new prospects for the Ukrainian economy and European integration.
