On February 24th, the Gallery of Defenders of Freedom of Lithuania (I building of the Seimas) commemorated the third anniversary of the full-scale russian invasion of Ukraine. The Lost Homes – Hope Amid the Ruins photo exhibition of author Vadim Sarahan, a photographer for the Press Service of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, was opened as part of the event.
Saulius Skvernelis, the Speaker of the Seimas, opened the exhibition, and the Ambassador of Ukraine to Lithuania, Olga Nikitchenko, and the Chancellor of the Seimas, Algirdas Stonchaitis, made the speeches. Vadim Sarahan's photographs document the consequences of the war, the destroyed cities, and the indomitability of Ukrainians. Leading international media published his works, and the exhibition in the Lithuanian Seimas was another opportunity to recall the struggle of Ukraine.
"For three years, Ukraine has been resisting the most brutal aggression of the 21st century, fighting not only for its freedom but also for the security of all of Europe. Today, when disinformation narratives of the Kremlin sound more and more often, our duty is to remind even louder the truth: Ukraine is defending itself legally, and Western assistance is not a mercy but a strategic necessity. As well as a tribute to Ukrainian heroes, this event in the Parliament is a clear signal: Lithuania will not tire and will not let the world forget about this struggle," emphasized the Speaker of the Seimas Saulius Skvernėlis.
The photo exhibition can be visited every Friday from 11:00 to 15:00 until March 31st.
