As part of the first visit of the Brazilian parliamentary delegation to Ukraine in the last 13 years, on 8 August 2024, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Foreign Policy and Interparliamentary Cooperation Oleksandr Merezhko and members of the Committee met with a delegation of the Commission on Foreign Affairs and Defence of the Chamber of Deputies of the National Congress of the Federative Republic of Brazil.

The meeting was attended by Ukrainian MPs, Deputy Chairman of the Committee Arsenii Pushkarenko, Chairman of the Committee's Subcommittee Yelyzaveta Yasko, and Chairman of the Subcommittee of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Environmental Policy and Nature Management Lesia Vasylenko.

The participants of the meeting discussed topical issues of world politics and international security, reform of the United Nations Security Council, the current security and humanitarian situation in Ukraine, the joint initiative of Brazil and China on peaceful settlement in Ukraine, and possible assistance of Brazil in returning Ukrainian citizens – military, civilians and, above all, children – detained in russia.

The Ukrainian MPs emphasised to their Brazilian colleagues their strong commitment to further implementing Ukraine's European and Euro-Atlantic integration.

Special attention was paid to strengthening political dialogue, upcoming bilateral events, including exchange of visits and strengthening of interparliamentary cooperation between Ukraine and Brazil.
