The decisions to support Ukraine made at the NATO Summit in Washington include not only the provision of additional air defence systems and F-16 aircraft, but also training of our military, long-term guarantees of assistance, etc. One of the important issues in the negotiations is the permission to strike the territory of russia with long-range weapons.
This was stated by Yehor Chernev, the MP, Deputy Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on National Security, Defence and Intelligence, Head of the Permanent Delegation of Ukraine to the NATO PA.
“We are now talking to our partners about the need to destroy russian aircraft carrying the KABs. These planes are located near the border of Ukraine, and we need permission to use the long-range weapons provided on the territory of russia. The first step in this direction has already been taken: we have permission to use artillery and short-range missiles in russia, so I think the decision we need will be made in due course,’ the politician is confident.
He added that during his meetings with US congressmen and senators, he felt that they supported Ukraine on this issue.
“Congressmen and senators are surprised that we cannot use the weapons provided by our partners, in particular the United States, to defend ourselves against russian aggression. Moreover, we are talking exclusively about military targets. In general, the final decision is up to the White House, because the support from the Congress and the Senate is not enough in this matter,” the MP stressed.
