During the plenary session, the Speaker of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania, Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen, addressed the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. In her speech, she stressed that Lithuania will make every effort to help Ukraine return all Ukrainian children illegally deported by russia.
This was stated by Iryna Borzova, the MP, Head of the Subcommittee on State Youth Policy of the Committee on Youth and Sports.
“Today, the world is uniting its efforts to end the war, to bring a just peace to Ukraine, to return all the children deported by russia to their native land, as well as our prisoners of war and illegally detained civilians. The fourth point of the President Volodymyr Zelenskyi’s “Peace Formula” was supported by many countries at the Global Peace Summit. It is important for the civilised world to show putin its unity and put pressure on the aggressor country,” the politician said.
She reminded that according to official information alone, more than 19.5 thousand Ukrainian children are considered to be illegally deported to the territory of the russian federation, although in reality this figure is much higher.
The International Coalition for the Return of Ukrainian Children, led by Ukraine and Canada, has already been joined by about 40 states. These include Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Spain, Sweden, the United States and others. Following the Global Peace Summit, the European Union became an observer in this coalition.
