In June, the EU leaders’ summit is scheduled to take place, at which Ukraine expects the negotiation framework for our candidacy to be approved. It is possible that the EU leaders' summit will also finalise the security agreement between Ukraine and the European Union. This was stated by the MP, Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Policy and Interparliamentary Cooperation Arsenii Pushkarenko.

“Today, the agreement on security guarantees between the European Union and Ukraine has been agreed with all 27 ambassadors of the EU member states. This document will provide for a long-term 10-year support for Ukraine. It is primarily about military assistance. It is important that this year’s support fund for Ukraine is €5 billion, and it may grow in the coming years. The agreement also covers efforts to rebuild Ukraine in both economic and infrastructure terms. This is a comprehensive document, and it is one of the steps towards collective security,” the MP said.

He reminded that Ukraine has already signed nine bilateral agreements on security guarantees.

“After the Vilnius NATO Summit last year, we have already signed 9 security agreements. We are currently negotiating with Belgium, Portugal, and Slovenia on the preparation of the same documents. We are also in the final stages of preparing a security agreement with the United States. We are optimistic that it will be signed before the NATO summit in Washington,” the MP said.
