Oleksii Movchan, the Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Economic Development, spoke as a speaker and moderator at the conference ‘Corporate Reform – A Way to Transparent and Effective State Property Management’, organised by the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine in cooperation with the USAID/UKaid project ‘Support to Operations of the State-Owned Enterprises of Ukraine’ (SOERA).
Speakers at the event included representatives of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, the Ministry of Finance of Ukraine, the State Property Fund of Ukraine, and members of the supervisory boards of state-owned companies.
“We discussed the content, significance and impact of the Law “On Amendments to Certain Legislative Acts of Ukraine on Improving Corporate Governance” No. 3587-XI of 22 February 2024,” says Oleksii Movchan. He spoke about his experience as a responsible member of the Committee for the Corporate Reform Law in two readings.
The law has received significant support from international organisations such as USAID, EBRD, OECD, IMF, European Union and World Bank. Representatives of these organisations took part in the conference. We discussed the key changes introduced by the Law and the next steps for its implementation. We also discussed how the adoption of the Law brings our country closer to the OECD guidelines and promotes Ukraine’s European integration.
The event was attended by US Ambassador to Ukraine Bridget Brink, who noted that the adoption of the Law improving corporate governance was crucial for the reform and further changes.
“Corporate governance reform is difficult and important. It is one of the key requirements for Ukraine’s international integration. It will bring the public sector of the economy to the level of international standards, and enterprises will have a transparent management system and independent supervisory boards.”
