At a meeting of the Committee on Foreign Policy and Interparliamentary Cooperation, the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Iryna Borovets spoke on the Strategy for the Development of Relations between Ukraine and Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC).

This was announced by Arsenii Pushkarenko, the Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Foreign Policy and Interparliamentary Cooperation.

“Today, it is clear that cooperation with the countries of the Global South is definitely one of the priorities within the framework of the implementation of the Ukrainian Peace Formula. Since the beginning of russia's large-scale invasion, Ukraine's foreign policy has been transformed. We have become a candidate for the EU, moved closer to NATO, intensified our work on the African continent and are restarting relations with the LAC countries,” the politician said.

He said that following the review and discussion of the strategy, the Committee held a working meeting with fellow MPs, heads of groups for interparliamentary cooperation with the countries of the region and representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine on the instructions of the Committee Chairman Oleksandr Merezhko.

The heads of the groups spoke about their achievements and exchanged views on possible mechanisms for enhancing bilateral and multilateral cooperation with Latin American and Caribbean countries.

In addition, recently, during the 148th IPU General Assembly, the Ukrainian parliamentary delegation headed by the First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Korniienko also held a number of bilateral meetings with parliamentarians from Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Mexico and other LAC countries.
