The third sowing season during russia's full-scale war against Ukraine is already underway in Ukraine, the Committee on Agrarian and Land Policy reports.

According to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, twenty regions have started sowing spring crops. As of 21 March, 214.5 thou hectares of grains and pulses were sown in Ukraine (3.8%). Of these, 29 thou hectares of wheat (11.8%), 117.3 thou hectares of barley (14.3%), 53.1 thou hectares of peas (33.2%) and 10.6 thou hectares of oats (6.5%).

The largest areas were sown by farmers in the following regions:

Odesa region – 56.7 thou hectares. Of these, 2.8 thou hectares of wheat, 28.2 thou hectares of barley, 20.7 thou hectares of peas and 1.3 thou hectares of oats;

in Mykolaiv region – 1.5 thou hectares of wheat, 24.8 thou hectares of barley, 15.3 thou hectares of peas and 0.5 thou hectares of oats;

in Kropyvnytskyi region – 4.2 thou hectares of wheat, 9.7 thou hectares of barley and 5.8 thou hectares of peas;

in Dnipro region – 3.9 thou hectares of wheat, 8.65 thou hectares of barley and 2.83 thou hectares of peas;

in Poltava region - 4.8 thou hectares of wheat, 18.3 thou hectares of barley, 0.9 thou hectares of peas and 1.4 thou hectares of oats

in Ternopil region - 2.6 thou hectares of wheat, 10.4 thou hectares of barley, 1.5 thou hectares of peas and 1.1 thou hectares of oats;

in Vinnytsia region - 3.3 thou hectares of wheat, 2.8 thou hectares of barley and 2.3 thou hectares of peas.

In addition, according to the Department of Agricultural Development of the Kyiv Regional Military Administration, 2.19 thou hectares have been sown in the region, including 1.67 thou hectares of grains and legumes, and farmers have started sowing sunflower.

For the 2024 harvest, the company plans to use 1148.5 thou hectares, which is 10.9 thou hectares more than last year. The company plans to plant 541.4 thou hectares of grain crops, which is 47.1% of the total acreage. In particular, only 177.1 thou hectares of winter crops have been sown, which is 94.8% of the previous year.

Spring grains and pulses will be sown on the area of 364.3 thou hectares, which is 8.6 thou hectares more than last year and amounts to 102.4%.

In addition, the region's farmers plan to increase the area under industrial crops, which are to be sown on a total of 422.3 thou hectares, up 6.9 thou hectares from last year.

Vegetable and potato crops will be planted on 123 thou hectares, which is 1.6 thou hectares more than last year. Vegetable crops and potatoes account for 10.7% of the total acreage.

Fodder crops will be planted on 62.08 thou hectares, up 4.58 thou hectares from last year, accounting for 4.76% of the total acreage.
