The People’s Deputies of Ukraine adopted Resolution No. 8229, which calls on parliaments and governments of foreign states to reform the United Nations and recognize the russian federation’s membership in the UN as illegitimate.

As it was explained by MP, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Committee on Foreign Policy and Interparliamentary Cooperation, the member of the Ukrainian delegation Olexander Merezhko, this document calls not only to recognize russia as a terrorist state but also to take appropriate steps.

“The world community, particularly, the United Nations, should not recognize russia as a member of the UN Security Council and a member of this organization in general. A terrorist state, a terrorist regime has no right neither in the sense of morality nor in the context of international law to take a place in the United Nations,” the politician stressed.

He added that the adopted document also contains a call to impose sanctions on certain russian political parties.

“We call on the world to recognize the russian parties that supported the aggression against Ukraine as terrorist organizations and to impose sanctions against them and against each of their members,” the MP said.

The Verkhovna Rada also called on the international community to intensify and concretize the efforts to bring to justice those who are responsible for committing international crimes. In particular, it must be done through the establishment of a special tribunal to bring senior officials of the aggressor state to justice for the crime of aggression against Ukraine.
