Committee on Agrarian and Land Policy: "We must avoid the global food crisis"

Ukraine is an exporter, and as a result of the military aggression of the Russian Federation, exports have stopped.

We are consistently among the top five world exporters of grains and legumes, and at the beginning of last year even took second place in this indicator. In total, more than 400 million people in the world depend on grain supplies from Ukraine. The lack of Ukrainian grain on world markets threatens the hunger of hundreds of millions of people around the world.

We are the world leader in exports of sunflower oil and meal. According to the analytical service of the All-Ukrainian Agrarian Council, world exports of sunflower oil in the 2021-2022 marketing year amounted to 10.9 million tons, half of which - 5.4 million tons - were exported by Ukraine.

Thus, according to the European Association of Producers and Processors of Vegetable Oils and Fats (FEDIOL), European processing plants receive 35-45% of oil from Ukraine, and available stocks in the EU are estimated to be enough for four to six weeks. According to FEDIOL forecasts, it is likely that after this period, the lack of unrefined sunflower oil and limited alternatives will lead to a shortage of refined / bottled sunflower oil on the European market and will be felt at the consumer level.

As a result, some countries have already imposed restrictions on the sale of sunflower oil, particularly in Italy and Spain.

Suspension of supplies from Ukraine could hit related industries in Europe. So, Spain is a key livestock feed producer in Europe. Half of Spain's grain imports came from Ukrainian ports. If supplies are not restored, all EU countries will be affected.

That is why the whole world should be interested in ending the war and resuming exports from Ukraine.

In order to avoid the global food crisis, Ukraine needs to conduct a sowing campaign and establish logistics channels.
